Shonach: I was born in America and studied dance there first with a wonderful, warm, intelligent woman named Joanne de Berg and later at George Balanchine's School of American Ballet. My parents moved to London in 1970 for my fathers work, and there I studied dance at The Royal Ballet School. When my parents went back to America two years later, I moved to Brussels where I studied at Maurice Béjart's school, Mudra. After two years in the school, the great choreographer took me into his dance company and immediately started creating pieces on me. After a year, I was already one of the principal dancers of the company. I enjoyed 15 years of collaboration with Maurice, dancing nearly all of the repertoire and creating dozens of roles. In 1986 I moved to Zürich to dance at the opera house under the direction of Uwe Scholz. A year later, I suffered an injury that forced me to stop dancing. I started teaching ballet after studying dance therapy in Basel and starting my own family. In the year 2000, I went back to school and received a Masters in Dance Education. I am currently completing the final level of the formation in Spiraldynamik.
